The Wizard of Oz for young and old at Blackhorse

Some members of the Blackhorse Village Players are very busy this holiday season preparing to mount their latest children’s holiday production The Wizard of Oz.

Even though this play is a condensed, non-musical version, it is still hosted by everyone’s favourite characters and promises plenty of audience participation to delight the young and the young at heart.

The The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man in the Moon Marigolds is an ambitious choice for the Blackhorse Village Players. Written by Paul Zindel and originally produced off Broadway at the end of the flower-child era of the early 1970s, The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man in the Moon Marigolds pays homage to the great family dramas of Tennessee Williams and Eugene O'Neill.

Durango rides into the sunset on Blackhorse stage

Do you know the difference between involved and committed? It's worth a visit to Blackhorse Village Players' production, Ned Durango Comes to Big Oak, by Norm Foster, to get the answer.

The answer - and the ensuing laughter - is claimed by Orson Hubble (played by Larry Hines), a small-town guy who knows everybody's business and makes up his own. Hines gives Orson a manner of speaking that makes you smile with each word. He stutters, swaggers, and livens up the town café, owned by his buddy Tom Shaw (Greg Cebelak). Add to that Orson's anxiety of meeting a long-lost daughter, and that their correspondence has not been totally honest, and you have the makings of a highly laughable situation.

Children will enjoy Rumpelstiltskin at Blackhorse

The Blackhorse Village Players present their third annual Children's Holiday Production this weekend.

'Rumpelstiltskin,' a story of a strange little miser who offers to help a young girl only to satisfy his own greed, will be presented this Saturday and Sunday, January 5 and 6. The play promises plenty of audience participation to delight the young and the young at heart.
